Movin' blues
It’s been kind of lonely here the last couple of days. Well, yesterday and today. I know no one here except my neighbor and my landlord. I had some crazy moments of loneliness yesterday, especially right after Mom and Grandpop left.
They, by the way, were absolute stars. We went to Wal-Mart yesterday (I KNOW! Wal-Mart!) and bought adapters for the outlets and a lamp and various household items (and the new Harry Potter book). Then we went back to my place and set everything up. Mom washed my dishes and put them away (with shelf liners, because she insists on them) and Grandpop put together my new lamp and various electrical things, all the time muttering things to himself and occasionally bursting out, “Son of a bitch!” or “Motherfucker!”. I organized everything I could (it’s a blur now), breaking all of my nails in the process.
Then they left. And I was alone. I don’t usually mind being alone so much. I like my solitude. But in a strange place, with no one around? It just kind of hit me that I’d moved, and I couldn’t just call someone up and meet for lunch. So I organized some more, and I went on chat, and I went to the supermarket. Then I went to Blockbuster and rented a couple of movies, which was especially nice because I don’t have cable at the moment. I’ve been watching Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets over and over—well, it’s been on in the background.
And today? Today I finally got 8 hours of sleep. Hallelujah! My neighbor took me on a short tour of the campus after I got back from the mall, where I straightened out my cell phone account and bought some candles. So, it’s been a lazy Sunday. A bit lonely. But I will be fine. I’m settling nicely (all I have left to do is figure out where to hang my set of four kitchen pictures), and I’m learning how to relax.
Next up, classes. In a week. I hope something exciting will come up this week, but don’t bet on it. For now, I’ll just try to come to terms with the move.
