One out, one in

Yesterday I wrote a whole entry, and of course I accidentally deleted it before I transferred it. Bah. I won’t try to re-create it, necessarily, but damn did I feel like an idiot.

Anyway.

Yesterday, my boss interviewed people to replace me. It was weird. I have kind of mixed feelings about the whole thing. I mean, these people are here to replace me, and I’m human and I don’t want to feel replaceable, you know? But I am, so whatever. We met one woman, and she wasn’t at all right for the job, and I asked my boss what he thought. He said, “Well, it’s up to HR to hire them!” I had to point out to him that if he didn’t feel comfortable with someone, he had to say something. And it got me thinking—did he hire me just because I was an available warm body, and he just lucked out? Or did he keep me around because my body was still warm and he didn’t want the hassle of getting rid of me? Damn. The ego smarts.

I also have to take over some of the hiring duties myself, just because my boss is never in town. That’s weird. I hate it—it’s kind of like, “I am so fabulous and you will never take my place!” Ugh.

I’m also kind of selfishly miffed at my work friends. No one has invited me to lunch or happy hour. I mean, granted, I was taken to lunch on my birthday last week, so that was cool. But you know, I’d kind of like some indication that they’re going to miss me. One of my friends here has her birthday a week after mine, and we always celebrate it together with a gigantic happy hour in the middle of the week. She keeps blowing me off about it, saying she’s too busy, maybe next week. OK. There’s also the possibility that they’re planning a surprise, but there’s no way I’m going to bank on that.

Got some interesting news yesterday. A guy I used to have a MASSIVE CRUSH on is coming back to work for the company. When I say MASSIVE, I mean it. We used to go out to lunch together. We once disappeared at a company party and talked for two hours. It was basically figured out by someone else that we liked each other, but nothing ever happened. He left the company in a whirl of pride and stubbornness and stupidity, and I find it highly amusing that he’s coming back. After all, except for the few months with another entertainment company last year, he’s never worked anywhere else.

He’s 45.

So, this is my last week. I’m leaving, but my history is coming back. How bizarre.

In good, happy news, Mom sent me a digital camera for my birthday! Yay! I can take digital pics of the DC/Baltimore 3WA gathering! Woo hoo!
