It's just for the wings! Really! I swear!

I went to Hooters today for lunch, thus fulfilling a longtime dream. Well, not really. But when you work with crew guys, you hear about Hooters a lot, and I, like any other curious person, wanted to see what all the fuss was about. Plus, I like wings. A lot.

It was... OK. Not fantastic, nothing special. The wings were good, but not slap-your-mama good or even close to Cheesecake-Factory-mashed-potatoes-orgasm-face good. They’d be better spicier (that’s what I get for only ordering medium, like a wimp) and accompanied by a cold margarita. And with less rush, because I can never relax when I go out to lunch while my boss is in the office. But the wings were good, and the fries were good, and I’m satisfied now.

I’d been told that the Hooters experience is not what it’s cracked up to be, that the waitresses are just kinda normal and not exactly on a par with Playboy models. Well, tell that to our server. She was very, very sweet, don’t get me wrong, but she was tall, pretty and dumb as a post. She also had long reddish hair that she flipped a lot, and she had long nails and big tits and a tank top cut down to there. Oh, and the hot pants. So, whatever. A stereotypical Hooters experience. I feel fulfilled.

Lots of men in there, too. Next time I want to pick up a stranger for sex, I should go to Hooters and smile. Men outnumbered women 20 to 1, and that was just at lunch.

(There is a big problem with that paragraph—“next time I want to pick up a stranger for sex.” I have never picked up a stranger for sex, and I don’t exactly intend to start doing so.)

So, it was a nice lunch.

In other news... I sent in my class registration for school today. I had to hesitate a bit, mostly because I was unsure about the financial part. I just wanted a number—how much should I send you people? So I called financial aid, then I spoke to someone in the bursar’s office, and I was told that my loans went through so I should be fine. That was a relief. I felt pretty stupid, so I said the woman on the phone, “I’m just so confused,” and she said, “Don’t worry. Everything will be worked out.” That was nice. I’ve learned that if you have a generally intelligent-sounding voice and an intelligent-looking face (which I do) and you’re polite, people are really nice to you and they appreciate that you’re smart. A nice feeling. Of course, they could be rolling their eyes at me, but what I don’t know won’t hurt me.

I also got two (TWO!) calls today from the son of some friends of my parents. We’ll call him Actor, because he’s a failed one. (Yeah. That makes sense.) Anyway, Actor hasn’t held down a job for more than three months, oh, EVER. He dropped out of a prestigious acting school two weeks before getting his diploma. He recently moved to New England to train for a sales job, but he quit after he found out that he’d have to make cold calls for a while. Whatever, dude. He’s like, 33 and lives in his parents’ basement. And now he wants my job. His mother asked me for my number on Monday. I gave it to him. He called yesterday while I was on the other line, so he left a voice mail. Then he called my cell phone. Then today he called at about 1, on my cell, and I answered, told him I was at lunch and that I’d call him back. Fine. THEN he called AN HOUR LATER! I did not answer.

That pissed me off. Dude, if you want me to recommend you, you’re going to have to be patient and respect my time. I may be leaving, but I still have a job to do, and I am still permitted to take a lunch. Persistence is fine, but over-persistence is not, especially since I don’t plan on recommending you to ANYONE IN THIS COMPANY FOR ANYTHING.

Man, I’m a bitch.

But hey, I went to Hooters, so it’s all good.
